So, what would you regret not doing in your lifetime? Bucket list, life goals – call it what you will. We all have stuff we want to do before we die. One of things that I’ve wanted to do from the time I was about twenty years old was to go to a restaurant in Paris called La Tour d’Argent. From the moment I read about La Tour d’Argent, I knew that I would someday go and have dinner there. Why is La Tour d’Argent so special? For one, it was founded in 1582. Yes, the restaurant dates back to the 1500s. Also, it has the most extensive wine list of any restaurant in the world. And, it’s one of the most iconic restaurants in the world.

In May 2018, I checked “dinner at La Tour d’Argent” off my bucket list. Yes, my partner and I saved our pennies for an entire year to be able to afford the experience. I can tell you it was worth every penny! From the moment we entered the doors and were seated in the reception room, we knew we had stepped into a special place. We waited for the elevator guy to bring the
elevator down and to escort us up to the dining room. We were seated at a lovely table by the window overlooking the Seine and Notre Dame. What a view! And, the wine list did not disappoint, all 1000 pages of it. It looked more like a tome than a wine list. After perusing the wine list for quite some minutes, oohing and ahhing over the fabulous wines, we decided to order wines from our birth years. A 1953 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande and a 1962 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. For dinner we had the chef’s imagination menu – a five course dinner left to the chef’s imagination. Every course was a surprise, and even more surprising was that some courses had sub-courses so it was really more like a ten course feast. The flavours, the textures, the presentation – just incredible. And, the food and the wine paired perfectly. The entire experience was sublime!

When I put La Tour d’Argent on my bucket list over thirty years ago, I knew that I would find a way to get there. After all, what’s the point of having a bucket list or life goals if I don’t actually accomplish any of them. So, what would you regret not doing in your lifetime? Make a plan to start checking off the items on your bucket list. None of us knows how much time we have on this earth. What are you waiting for?
